Music

End of Year Summer Concert – Thursday 28 June at 7pm at the Amey Theatre.  Our orchestras and bands are joined by the Gospel Choir for a feast of music, including Mozart's famous horn concerto rondo finale, Tchaikovsky's mighty Marche Slave and popular classics such as the main themes from the hit film, La La Land. It will also be a most fitting way to bid farewell to our musical leavers. Tickets are available. Do join us!

Paris to London Cycle: from a member of the cycle team

In August, seven lower 6th pupils will be cycling from Abingdon to Paris over the course of three days.  The ride will be around 210 miles, split into roughly 70 mile chunks each day.  The charity we are supporting is called Blue Skye Thinking.  Blue Skye Thinking supports research into the treatment of childhood brain tumours, striving to give all children diagnosed, a better chance of survival and improved quality of life during and post treatment. Run by volunteers, money donated goes directly to the forefront of research and wellbeing projects.  Brain tumours present a life changing experience.  Current treatment involves Surgery, plus a combination of Chemotherapy, and Radio or Proton Therapy, but each of these has devastating consequences in terms of side effects, both in the short term and over the long term. Research is trying to establish new innovative ways to treat childhood brain tumours, but this requires funding.  This charity is particularly close to our hearts as a few years ago, the 5 year old son of one of our school sports teachers, called Skye, sadly died due to a brain tumour.  This charity was set up by Skye's family. If you would like to read more about the work of the charity, please click on the link to the website: http://www.blueskyethinking.org.

Finally, we’d be really grateful for any sponsorship to the charity for our ride.  Below is the link to the Just Giving donation page. Anything you are willing to donate would be hugely appreciated by us, and the growing community behind the charity – it doesn't have to be huge, every bit counts.  We appreciate you will have many requests for sponsorship each year. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/charles-hall. Thank you very much.  ASPA has recognised this endeavour by making an award to the group, which will be presented at Prize Giving tomorrow.
