On Saturday the rugby sevens season continued with our U12, U13, U14, U15 & U16 VIIs travelling to Warwick School for one of the largest and best attended Schools’ sevens tournaments in the season.
Our new pink gazebos courtesy of our Touchliners were up and used a lot between matches as the weather played its part in the day with heavy rain at times and muddy ground. However, this did not curb the energy and enthusiasm of our boys as they persevered and pulled together in challenging conditions.
One of the big positives of the day was having lots of boys from U12s up to U16s all in the same venue at the same time. When boys were not playing they were often seen together with their teammates watching another Abingdon age group. This was fantastic to see and most definitely builds culture and future aspiration within the Rugby Club.
Our U12 and U13 sides were very successful building and developing throughout the day. This was really positive as so many boys have never played sevens until this season. Our U14s played very tough opposition in their group but at times were excellent showing real promise. The U15s worked hard as a team and were unlucky in the knockout stages. And our U16s will have really learned a lot playing the two finalists and improving so much over the day.

U16 VII
Lost 32-0 to Wellington College
Won 12-0 against Warwick B
Won 33-12 against Solihull
Cup ¼ Final Lost 19-5 to Sedbergh (who won the Cup beating Wellington in the final)
Thank you to all the boys for committing to the day. Impressive considering it was day one of our half term. And thank you to all our parents who came and supported the boys in those rainy, windy conditions.
This Sunday 18 February our U14 & U16 VII squads are at Wellington College taking part in a festival against hosts Wellington College, The John Fisher School, Hampton School, and Epsom College. Best of luck boys!
