From Felicity Lusk,
Head of Abingdon School
What a fantastic opportunity this tour of Catalonia presents
for our talented musicians. The boys will enjoy visiting sites
and experiencing local culture but, most importantly, they’ll
be performing in stunning venues and sharing their music.
I know that their musicianship will bring much joy and
pleasure to themselves and their audiences. They will, no
doubt, remember this tour in years to come as being a
highlight of their musical years at Abingdon.
I wish everyone involved, boys and staff, every success
and happiness on tour.
From Michael Stinton,
Director of Music
This will be the fifth major international tour undertaken by
the First Orchestra in the last nineteen years. The others, to
Central Europe in 1995 and 2001, and to Hong Kong and
Beijing in 2006, and USA in 2011 have encouraged our
young musicians to aim high and to harness the discipline
that is required in rehearsal for first class playing.
I am delighted that the school’s Chapel Choir will be joining
us for this tour. They are thriving under John Cotton’s
leadership and the anticipation of the tour has already
brought great benefits to both orchestral and choral music
making at the school.
I am immensely grateful to parents and friends whose
generosity has made this tour possible. I have no doubt that
the experience gained through undertaking this tour will stay
with our musicians forever.
