Abingdonian 2017

14 The Abingdonian Rugby After a cracking pre-season the Rugby Club went into the 2016 season with a strong base behind them, fantastic fixtures ahead and some really exciting trips and tours. Our Lower School were impressive with 38 fixtures played across the term by four teams, and well above 70 boys playing for the school. Our U12s had good results over Cokethorpe and Shiplake as well as competing strongly in the school festivals at the Dragon and Caldicott Prep. The U13s had a good year developing their skills and producing some excellent performances again. The U14 year group had a very strong season, with lots of strength and depth across the age group. Our D XV were undefeated from 11 matches scoring 590 points, and for the first time we had an E XV due to the large uptake of rugby with three wins from five. The highlight was beating Radley in both teams. The C, B and A XVs were also very successful and played a fun and exciting style of rugby, winning the majority of their matches, and always striving to be better. Big results were wins over Eton, Radley and Marlborough. At half term the U14s went on tour to Sussex to play Eastbourne and Seaford. They were successful on the pitch, but also bonded well off it. This definitely helped them post half-term with some of those tougher fixtures where team spirit is key. The age group as a whole are one to watch and surely will make a good senior team when up in Sixth Form.
