Abingdonian 2017
101 www.abingdon.org.uk House Reports receiving an Excellence Award in the 2017 National Chinese Calligraphy Competition. Behind the scenes there has been some cracking work from Matthew Buhler, who volunteers at Helen and Douglas House, while Joe McConnell rowing in J15As boat and for Abingdon Town Club, who qualified for the national championships. Well done to James Tuffill for the academic prize, and thanks to Dr Burnand and Mr Taylor for all they have done to help their tutor groups. The third year have settled in very well to the ebb and flow of life at Abingdon. Francesco Bartolini and Joe Nicholas achieved bellringing qualification Level 1, while Henry Wooding wrote three chapters with professional author guidance in Birth of a book . Will Taylor is already putting Mr Franklin through his paces on the squash court and is one of the top four players in the school. Thomas Owen, who only took up the sport a year ago, has been selected to play county golf, while Benjamin Broadbent won the school computing cup and multiple sailing accolades. Perhaps what has summed up the tutor group best this year was being able to field five teams in the road relay, while Aiden Petersen and Tom Owen swam all legs of the individual medley during house swimming. This fraternal atmosphere has really developed over the year, and they can be delighted with all they have achieved. We have to sadly say goodbye to Aiden Petersen, whose family are moving back to the US. He has just won the third year academic prize and we wish him every success. A final thanks to Mrs Wenham and to Mrs Whitworth and Mrs Vickers who have been incredibly supportive to the tutor group throughout the year. So there is a flavour of what has gone on within the Green Army this year. Add to this the well supported Christmas carol service, trampolining house social, fortnightly house mentor meetings with donuts, growth mindset assemblies, house values business cards, house hero posters, tutor group assemblies, inter house activities, third place in house singing and so much more. All of this would not be possible without the fantastic group of tutors as well as the great support given by the parent body. Thanks to everyone for another great year for @southwellsander.
