4 April 2019 The joint senior Abingdon and St Helen’s production of Government Inspector fused its comedic charm with modern undertones bringing to life Nikolai Gogol’s classic play. Students worked tirelessly and with roaring success as the audience enjoyed the exploits of Khlestakov, a foppish civil servant, as his identity is mistaken for a government inspector. Filled with larger than life characters and mixed with the vibrant town’s people this production was a triumph! Government Inspector T.S. Eliot Poetry Prize Sixth form students travelled to the Royal Festival Hall at London’s Southbank Centre to visit the Poetry Library, and hear the ten poets shortlisted for the prestigious T.S. Eliot Poetry Prize read from their work. Abingdon News Paul Gooding, Katy Lee and Carrie Berry, have qualified as Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructors with Mental Health First Aid England. They are training both Abingdon staff and ​ p​artnership​school​staff in this vital area. The course is part of the government’s aim to see staff equipped to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. The training helps to spot early signs and symptoms in order to direct students to the appropriate professional help. The training will be rolled out to more staff over the coming years.
