abingdon.org.uk/prep 3 Abingdon Prep News Grandparents’ Tea In June, over 120 grandparents arrived to enjoy an afternoon at Abingdon Prep with their grandsons. The visitors met their grandsons in their classrooms where they were keen to share the lovely work they have done this year and special pieces they were really proud of. The visitors were given a guided tour of the school by their grandsons which ended in the main hall where a delicious cream tea awaited them. As they tucked into tea they were entertained with music and poetry recitals from the boys. The afternoon was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Louise Batho We have some nest boxes in our grounds supplied by William in Y5’s father, who is involved with the Citizen Bird project. The electronics inside have enabled us to see into the box and weighing scales record activity, birds coming and going or growing chicks will affect the weight. The school garden box has a Great Tit nest. The eggs hatched and the chicks grew rapidly. We could see them being fed and how they grew. By mid-May they were nearly ready to fledge. CONGRATULATIONS to Hannah and Craig Williams on the arrival of their first child, Quinn. Citizen Bird The Life Education Bus visited APS to run sessions with boys from Reception to Year 6. The aim is to encourage boys to be aware of their bodies, how they work and what can affect them. It gives boys opportunities to reflect on their lifestyle choices and to develop strategies for dealing with issues such as feelings, friendships, risk taking and consequences. The sessions are age appropriate and a wide range of health related issues are explored: from hygiene and healthy eating in the lower years, building steadily to include managing emotions and keeping safe, including drug use in the junior age groups. Table Tennis Club made the most of the sunshine with an al fresco session after school one Friday. Thankfully it was a still afternoon so the wind didn't affect play.
