4 April 2020 AbingdonPrep In and Out Years 3 and 4 had a great trip to Hazard Alley, which is a purpose-built safety education centre near Milton Keynes. During their tour around the ‘life size’ village, boys encountered a range of hazards giving them the opportunity to develop vital knowledge and strategies on how to stay safe. Junior Section visit Hazard Alley World Book Day Craig welcomed everyone into school on World Book Day dressed as Sherlock Holmes. Natasha led our celebrations at assembly and she talked about why sharing books and reading is such a wonderful thing. This was followed by a fiercely fought literary quiz between teams of staff and pupils. It was wonderful to see the variety of costumes and the imagination that had gone into them. We had James with his Giant Peach and many other Roald Dahl characters, several Dr Seuss Cats and Harry Potters. We also had a Gangsta Granny, a Beetle Boy, a Stick Man and a Pug from the books by Philip Reeve. The judge’s winner was Treebeard the Ent from Lord of the Rings in a wonderful homemade costume (above centre). Staff joined in too, with Mary Poppins, Dracula, Hagrid, Cruella de Vil, the Saucepan Man from Blyton’s Magic Faraway Tree amongst them, but it was a very green Grinch who won the staff prize.
