Every year there is a Big Draw Festival to encourage people to look at drawing in a new way. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Living Lines’. The brief is open, so we encouraged the pupils (and staff) to think about this in different ways: animation, line drawings, text and lines of thought. Part of the event is to encourage as many people as possible to participate in a collaborative artwork. So the Senior and Prep School Art departments put their creative heads together and came up with the idea of a Living Lines Tree. This allowed pupils, parents and staff the autonomy to create whatever they wanted on an individual luggage tag, but collate all the tags together to float around on the tree, extending this idea of ‘living lines’, referencing ‘Wish trees’. The Abingdon submission to The Big Draw will be a video of the making and collating of the lines on the tags and the moving lines of the tags within the tree. Please come and have a look at the Living Lines Tree in the Art Garden, we are hoping that it will last a while, as a memory of the Art Department after we move in to our new building in the summer. There are some stunning individual pieces and we thank the (over 400) artists who took part.
