On Friday 18 November, the OA Club along with Abingdon’s Head of Career Guidance had the pleasure of hosting their annual Sixth Form Careers Evening where 40 OAs plus industry contacts shared their knowledge, experience and professional insights with current students.

This year we had a varied assortment of industries represented with job titles ranging from architect to accountant, fine artist to filmmaker, medic to mechanical engineer and many more.

With a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, volunteers had the chance to mix/catch up with their peers before heading up two concurrent panels. Here, OAs spoke broadly about their career paths in front of groups of budding sixth formers. This was followed by a series of three career discussion sessions between small groups or individual participants with clusters of students. The sessions ended with eager eyes and imaginations widened.

At the closing of the event, the OA Club President, Henry Scarlett (2007), shared his thoughts from the evening, stressing the importance of perspective, time and the continuation of learning throughout life.

Sincere thanks to all the volunteers for their time and valuable knowledge.

” Thoroughly well organised and enjoyable as ever.” (OA 1986)
