A group of 19 Old Abingdonians enjoyed another Golf Day at the wonderful Frilford Heath Golf Club in a full day of glorious sunshine, organised by OA David Blomley. Here's his report of the day:
“After an initial cup of coffee to fire us up, we went over to the first hole of the Blue Course and embarrassed ourselves with the difficult first three holes that have lots of water to invite you to lose your little white spheres, which we duly did! The Trenaman Trophy is played over 9 holes in the morning and was won this year by David Blanksby who was playing in the Golf Day for the first time. He gained 17 stableford points, almost playing to his handicap, with a 3 way tie for second place on 16 points.
We enjoyed a ploughman’s lunch and went out on the Red Course in the afternoon, to compete for the John Roysse Cup over the full 18 holes. The winner was David Luther on 37 points with a tie for second place on 35, with David Blomley coming out ahead of Gwyn Jones on countback. (There is a bit of a theme here, you really need to be called David!!).
We rounded off the day with a well-deserved carvery supper.”
Next year’s Golf Day is provisionally booked for Monday 11th May 2020, for more information contact David Blomley.
