Class of 2019 are welcomed into the OA Club by OA Club President, David Lindgren (1993) and guest speaker, Jonathan Bucke (2009).

Leavers' Day 2019 began with a graduation ceremony where the boys heard from the Headmaster, Michael Windsor, OA Club President, David Lindgren (1993) and guest speaker, Jonathan Bucke (2009).

David has been President of the OA Club for the last two years, having joined the OA Club Committee at the start of 2015. In his speech, David made it clear that leaving Abingdon School does not mean leaving the Abingdon Community and ensured that the 2019 leavers' were keenly welcomed into the OA Club.
The concluding words of David's speech, quoted from a well-known song by Rihanna, shall no doubt be immortalised in the memories of the Class of 2019 Leavers;
'When the sun shines, we shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be your friend
Took an oath that I'm a stick it out 'til the end
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella.'

A 2009 leaver, Jonathan was a keen sportsman during his time at Abingdon, representing the 1st teams at Rugby and Tennis. After finishing at Abingdon, Jonny studied Physiotherapy at the University of Birmingham. He now works for the English Institute of Sport as the Lead Physiotherapist for the Great Britain Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Team. Jonny remembered his time at Abingdon fondly and imparted five pearls of wisdom for the boys:

1  Be a 'yes' man. Don't miss out on opportunities.
2  Be flexible and open to new ideas.
3  Try new things, meet new people.  Embrace life experiences.
4  Harness the power of social media – in the right way!
5  Persevere.

Representatives from each house were presented with OA ties which were swiftly donned by the boys in preparation for their Year Group Photo.

As has become tradition, two ice cream vans appeared over the horizon during break time for a mid-morning treat before a final chapel service. During the service, boys 'sung louder than they ever had in chapel before'.

Leavers' Day concluded with a BBQ outside Beech Court, an opportunity to sign leavers books and say goodbye to peers and staff alike.

We wish the Class of 2019 the best of luck with their impending exams and look forward to welcoming them at OA Club events in the near future.
