Held on one of the only weekends this month that was not disrupted by snow, and with the rain holding off, the annual OA Football and Hockey matches on Saturday 24 March were a marked success.

More than 50 OAs reunited at Tilsley Park with shin pads, gum shields, sticks and boots at the ready to partake in two quality matches that lacked neither gusto nor goals. OA Hockey saw the celebrated return of former Common Room members Jamie Older and Andy Hall, OA Football featured many players from last year's OA fixture and the recent Returning Captain’s match – not to mention all three Fishpool brothers on the same team – and both matches enjoyed the contributions of dual-sportsman Kevin Stanton-King, who played one half of each.

The play was impressively energetic and culminated with plenty of socialising over well-earned refreshments at the Tilsley Park bar.

Very many thanks go to all OAs who set aside the time to play, our many spectators and supporters, our football referee, Ian Beachey, and, of course, Tom Donnelly and Olly Deasy, the School’s Directors of Football and Hockey respectively.

Tom Donnelly had positive words for our returning footballers, many of whom stayed on to watch the 1st XI’s fixture that afternoon:

“With leavers from 2017 through to 1978 all in attendance, the players enjoyed a competitive, closely fought fixture followed by some enjoyable lunch and a chance to catch up with old friends whilst supporting the 1st XI in their 3-3 draw with St John’s, Leatherhead.”

We look forward to seeing even more OAs in action at next year’s matches!
