On Saturday the Rugby Club played against Rugby School. Out of all the fixtures in the Michaelmas term this is certainly the most exciting – to play the school where Rugby Football Union began when William Webb Ellis picked up the ball and ran with it. This is truly a fantastic opportunity for our boys, particularly for any away teams. Playing away on the day were our Under 14 and Senior sides. At home saw the Under 15s playing at Cox's Field and the Under 16s playing at school.

Our Under 14s played four fixtures from A-D. The D XV lost a close match 10-5, the  C XV won another close match 15-5, and the B XV had a great result winning 35-10. Our A XV played extremely well, but just got pipped 14-5. Our seniors had some cracking matches with the 4th XV drawing 12-12, just missing out on a chance and opportunity to win the final play of the game. The 3rd XV lost 22-5 in a combative match. Our 2nd XV were outstanding in defence winning 15-0. Unfortunately the 1st XV went down 29-10 on The Close with Rugby scoring in the final play, a close but disappointing performance.

At home the Under 15s played at Cox's Field. Unfortunately Rugby School were not able to put out a D XV, however, our Under 15 C XV continued their amazing season winning 55-0. Our Under 15 B XV won well 29-0, but unfortunately the Under 15 A XV lost 33-12 with a disappointing performance and will look to bounce back this weekend. Our Under 16s played on Lower Field. The C XV lost 27-19 in a cracking match and our B XV were beaten 27-0. Our U16 A XV continued their unbeaten run out on Waste Court putting in a comprehensive and impressive performance winning 53-15.

Last Wednesday the Under 12 and Under 13 sides were in action once again, this time versus The Dragon Prep School, Oxford. The Under 12 B team played Dragon C and drew 20-20. Our 12 A team played Dragon B and won 50-0. The Under 13 A and B both played away and lost 60-5 and 50-0 respectively. This was a big learning curve for the boys who have been really improving this term. This was no disgrace as the Dragon are very strong side this year and have hardly conceeded a point. The boys were impressive and stuck to it throughout.

We look forward to matches this week against Royal Latin and Cheltenham College Prep School on Saturday. The Under 12 A and B are away and the U13 A and B are at home.

Looking ahead, this Saturday sees our annual block fixture against local rivals Radley College. Our Under 15 A-D XVs and 1st-4th XVs all at home, with our Under 14 A-D XVs and Under 16 A-C XVs all away. All matches to kick off at 2:30pm.
