{"id":12092,"date":"2016-05-27T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-05-26T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/abingdon.prod.twkmedia.eu\/prep\/2016\/05\/27\/senior-swimming-gala-2016\/"},"modified":"2019-10-30T12:05:52","modified_gmt":"2019-10-30T12:05:52","slug":"senior-swimming-gala-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abingdon.org.uk\/prep\/senior-swimming-gala-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Senior Swimming Gala 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>27 May 2016<\/h3>\n<p>The gala was split into two events, Years 5 &amp; 6 (Intermediate) and Years 7 &amp; 8 (Senior).<\/p>\n<p>During a very competitive afternoon of house swimming, no less than 12 school swimming records were broken.<\/p>\n<p>In Year 5, the outstanding performer was Jasper for Phoenix who broke two school records in the 25m Breaststroke (22.46sec.) and the 25m Freestyle (17.22sec.). In addition he anchored the Phoenix team to victory and new school records in both the Medley (1:29.28sec.) and Freestyle Relays (1:19.93sec.). His team-mates in the relay consisted of Monty, Drew and Kayden. There were also fine performances from Tye, Jack, Freddie and Archie. While in the Years 6s, Alex (50m Freestyle) and William (25m Backstroke) showed their class by breaking school records in their respective events. Other outstanding performance came from Jonny (50m Breaststroke), Henry (25m Freestyle), Sasha &nbsp;(25m Breaststroke) and Christopher (25m Freestyle). Unicorn were the stand out team winning both the U11 Medley and Freestyle Relays. The team consisted of Tom, Alex, William and Harrison.<\/p>\n<p>The final results (Year 5 &amp; 6): 1st &ndash; Phoenix, 2nd &ndash; Unicorn, 3rd &ndash; Griffin, 4th &ndash; Dragon<\/p>\n<p>In Year 7, the outstanding performers were Freddie (25m Breaststroke &amp; 25m Freestyle) and Matthew (25m Backstroke &amp; 50m Breaststroke). There were also outstanding swims from Charlie who won the 50m Freestyle. Griffin and Phoenix won the Medley and Freestyle Relays respectively. The star of the afternoon was not surprisingly the current UK No. 1 swimmer in the 50m Backstroke and Year 8 team captain Nicholas. He won four individual events and broke a school record in three (25m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle &amp; 50m Breaststroke) as well as anchoring his Griffin team to wins in both Medley and Freestyle Relays.
