Last Wednesday four boys from Year 8 joined teams from 20 other schools from Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire for a day of chemistry at Oxford University.

The boys took part in two challenges and were awarded first prize in the ‘University Challenge’ seeing them race against the clock to react different concentrations of sulphuric acid with magnesium ribbon in a set time.

The time was 2 minutes 30 seconds and our team was 2 seconds out. They were praised for their team work, communication skills and tenacity.

The day ended with a superb display of chemistry by members of the Inorganic Chemistry Department at the University who treated us to some explosive demonstrations.
