Drama

Everyone who wants to has an opportunity to perform at Abingdon Prep. In a typical school year there are seven productions across all age groups. These range from the Pre-Prep Nativity to the Senior Section performing a musical or play which is staged at Abingdon School’s Amey Theatre with a full cast and musicians.

Recent productions have included Smike, Joseph and Oliver! in the Senior Section, Daniel and the Lions’ Den in the Junior Section and A Miracle in Town for Pre-prep.

Pupils from Reception to Year 6 are also taught drama as part of the academic curriculum and senior pupils have weekly performing arts lessons combining music and drama.

Encore Drama Club alternates each term between Year 3-4 and Year 5-6.

In the Year 3-4 club pupils are given the chance to play a range of drama games, work on improvisational skills and experience working on short sketches. In the Year 5-6 club pupils are given the opportunity to further develop their drama skills by working on short plays and scenes and extending their improvisational skills in a more in-depth way. Emphasis is on working collaboratively and developing confidence alongside having fun.

The Senior Drama Club is for Year 7-8. Pupils are given the chance to experiment with improvisational skills using published scripts from playwrights such as Shakespeare and his more modern contemporaries.
