The new term at Abingdon Prep saw some exciting additions to the already comprehensive Other Half (or extra-curricular) programme that the boys enjoy. Archery, Stop Motion Animation, Lego Robotics and Senior Drama Club, to name a few, have all been added, bringing the number of activities available to well over 50.

Some of the ten new activities were at the request of last year’s Year 3 boys who practised their persuasive writing skills, penning suggestions to Rachel Pairman, who oversees the Other Half programme. We couldn’t provide the zip wires across the playground but we have added the Junior Golf and Outdoor Explorers.

Our Other Half programme is both fun and educational. Boys are encouraged to try something new and to commit for at least a term. In Pre-Prep boys have an integrated enrichment programme with the Year 1s and 2s also able to try some of the appropriate after school clubs.

There really is something for everyone at Abingdon Prep. Options include age-appropriate coding clubs from Purple Mash for the younger boys to html coding for Years 7 and 8. If boys are interested in Science we have the junior ‘Up and Atom’ club or Eureka for the senior boys. There’s theological and philosophical discussion groups, art clubs and numerous music activities from choir, Jazz and music tech to Rock School.

We offer a wide range of sports, some enhancing the curriculum sports and others providing opportunities to try something new. Chess, gardening, Lego and IT animation are also popular as is ‘Practical Life Skills’ for the senior boys, which is a fun way to learn the basics, from simple cookery and ironing to putting on a single duvet cover!

To see all the activities on offer take a look at our weekly overview and to learn more about each activity go to the Other Half tab.
