Career Guidance Events

The School's Career Guidance Department and the OA Club offer a range of career guidance and UCAS events each year to help pupils learn about career options, make decisions about GCSE, A-Level and University subjects, and gain skills essential for securing employment and for succeeding in the world of work. We are always looking for OAs to help out at these events.

Friday 21 June 2019, 7.00pm - 9.00pm

OAs currently at University or who have recently graduated or took a Gap Year are invited to attend and share their advice with boys and their parents. This new format will be in the style of a networking evening, with complimentary drinks and canapès. Sixth Form Careers Evening
Friday 15 November 2019, 6.00pm - 10.00pm
Abingdon School

Kicking off with a drinks reception, this 'mini careers conference' consists of two concurrent OA panel presentations and a range of individual career discussions led by OAs for groups of 5-7 students, ending with a buffet supper for participating OAs. The OA Club needs about 35 early- to mid-career OAs to lead discussion sessions (including 10 to also participate on panels). Abingdon Careers Convention
Friday 13 March 2020, 7-9:30pm

Our Lady's Abingdon
The annual Careers Convention (co-hosted with St Helen’s and Our Lady’s) will next be held at Our Lady's. This is an opportunity for students from all three schools to gather information about careers of interest and educational routes into those careers. The format of the event is that of a careers fair, with students choosing and joining small discussion groups led by career representatives. Concurrent with the career fair are two panel presentations and the opportunity to have a walk-in, one-to-one meeting with an independent careers adviser. For more information, or to volunteer, please contact Michael Triff at michael.triff@abingdon.org.uk or 01235 849129.

On Friday evening, OA Jack Swanborough (2012) came to give Abingdon boys an insight in to Mechatronics Engineering. Using projects from Tech Camp (where Jack works as Technical Manager), pupils learnt what it's like to work in mechatronics engineering & solve real world problems. https://t.co/WZpB8bUAsT20 May
