This summer will see a complete re-fit of the present fitness suite to meet the strength and conditioning needs of all the boys at Abingdon. The new suite will comprise four different zones each with its own focus.

The new Olympic Lifting area will host three Half Racks and additional space for developing lifting technique. The introduction of a new, innovative flooring system from the USA will enable us to get more boys working in this space than the traditional set ups seen in most fitness suites.

One side of the fitness suite will have two zones; the free weight area and the body weight / functional rig. Here boys will be able to interact in large group sessions and learn the fundamental movement patterns required to keep their muscular and skeletal systems in perfect condition. It is in this area where much of the initial teaching and learning will occur and provide the building blocks for the future.

The final zone will be 11 pieces of cardio-vascular equipment; the three treadmills, five bikes, cross trainer, rowing machine and curved self powered treadmill will ensure that the boys develop into the all round athlete.

The project is due for completion during the final weeks of the summer holiday and will be open for the boys at the start of the new academic year.
