Nine sixth formers and two members of staff travelled to Eastern Europe at the start of the summer break for the annual Moldova Project trip. Working with our partner charity Agape, the boys organised two summer camps for Moldovan children.
The first camp was based at Petre Stefanuca School in Ialoveni and saw over 100 children enjoying art and craft, English and sporting sessions run by the Abingdon group. While in Moldova the boys also visited Chisinau, the capital city, and the 14th century monastery at Orheiul Vechi, and took part in the annual England v Moldova football match.
The group then travelled to Lacu Rosu in Romania with about 30 Moldovan children. Here, as well as enjoying walks in the fantastic mountain scenery and rowing on the Red Lake, they engaged in various team challenges including making a boardgame, designing a team poster, and an Apprentice-style shopping task.
It was clear from the emotional farewells on the last day that the trip had had a big impact on Abingdonians and Moldovans alike. To quote one of the boys: “This trip has changed me as a person”.
