The Head, Miss Felicity Lusk, said:

‘These results are outstanding with close to 50% of all passes being awarded the top A* grade.  It is particularly impressive when you consider the number of iGCSEs studied by Abingdon boys.  The iGCSE is considered to be more demanding than GCSEs and is currently taken in ten subjects at Abingdon, increasing to twelve next year.  Seven subjects reported their best ever results at iGCSE with English achieving a remarkable 98 A*s.  Many, many congratulations to all the boys and their families and to the Abingdon staff.’

“This year’s results equal the School’s best-ever performance at A level with the highest-ever percentage of passes awarded the A* grade. 80 boys gained 3 or more A level passes at A* or A which is outstanding. Results like these do not come easily and represent years of hard work from boys and staff and support from their families.  These results are testament to the breadth of an Abingdon education where boys are encouraged to achieve academic excellence alongside equally impressive performances in the music, arts and sporting arenas. Many congratulations to all the boys, their families and the Abingdon staff.”

The Head, Miss Felicity Lusk, said:

‘I am absolutely thrilled with these results. Almost 46% of passes were awarded the A* grade and this is particularly impressive as eight of the subjects taken were iGCSEs - or International GCSEs - which are traditionally considered more demanding than GCSEs. This is a very, very strong performance and the boys, their families and our staff should all be congratulated.’

‘This year sees our equal best ever GCSE results with 80% of passes at grade A* or A. It is a tremendous achievement, with 146 boys taking GCSEs, to have over three-quarters of the passes at the highest grades. These boys also have enormous depth and range of talent outside the academic arena with music, drama and art flourishing alongside an unbeaten rugby season, exceptional athletics achievements and very successful rowing results. Many congratulations to the boys, staff and their families on an excellent year’.

The Headmaster, Mr Mark Turner, said this morning:

‘This is one of our best ever years for A level results with over half our boys gaining 3 or more passes at grade A* or A. This achievement is due to an enormous amount of hard work from the boys and the staff. The results are excellent across all subjects with close to 50% of those boys taking Maths and Art gaining A*s. I am delighted that I leave Abingdon in a year that the boys achieved such tremendous results both academically and in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. I wish them every success for the future.’

The Headmaster, Mr Mark Turner, said this morning:

‘These are excellent results and I would like to congratulate all the boys on their tremendous achievements. They reflect an enormous amount of hard work and dedication from the boys, their families and our staff. The results show very high standards across the wide range of academic subjects offered by Abingdon and this is particularly pleasing alongside the extra-curricular successes we have enjoyed this year with, most recently, a rowing crew that reached the final day at Henley and an outstanding Big Band tour to Italy.’
