Hockey vs Bradfield

The Hockey Club had a fantastic block fixture against Bradfield last week, with all teams competing to maintain their places near the top of the ISHL Leagues.

The 1st XI recorded an excellent draw against a well organised Bradfield side, taking the lead, but not able to maintain it at the final whistle. The U16 As performed exceptionally well in a free flowing match, with goals being scored at both ends they came away 5-2 victors.

The U15 As continue their good run of form, winning a tight match 2-1. With few chances they showed excellent composure in front of goal, taking their chances well.

The U14s recorded some mixed results. The As won 4-0, which leaves them sitting top of their ISHL league, the Bs did well, but just could not convert their chances in a 0-0 draw. The Cs and Ds played in two tight matches, unfortunately losing by one goal in both.

Overall it was a fantastic fixture, with pupils getting lots of game and pitch time. Well done to all those involved.

Regional Finals U14

After a convincing win against Eton (8-1), in the qualifying round, the U14s went to KCS Southampton to play in round robin tournament against Whitgift, Sir William Borlase and KCS Southampton.

The boys played out of their skins, against some nationally recognised teams. With a good draw and lots of chances against Sir William Borlase it left them two very tough fixtures to finish with. Unfortunately, the quality proved a step too far against Whitgift, and with the boys needing a win to qualify they bowed out of the tournament. It was a brilliant representation of how far hockey has come at Abingdon to be rubbing shoulders with these teams.

Well done to all those involved.

St George's 6s

The 1st VI were invited to an invitational tournament at St George's where 32 of the most prestigious schools compete in a 6 a side tournament. With 6 tough group games, the boys performed well, scoring lots of goals and playing free flowing hockey. Unfortunately they could not quite qualify for the final, however it was a valuable and fun experience.

Coaching Moulsford

Abingdon Hockey Club continued to do it's outreach work with local prep schools last week when three sixth formers helped to coach 35 boys from Moulsford Prep at Wallingford HC. A huge thank you to those involved.

Lower School

The Lower School had a fantastic block fixture against Chandlings last week, with four very competitive matches. The U12 A VII, ran out 2-0 winners, in an exciting match. Another victory for the U12 C VII, saw Abingdon win the block. Some fantastic performances, and it is great to see how much progress has been made in a short amount of time with the Lower School.

This week we look forward to a block fixture vs Wellington and Lower School match vs The Dragon.
