The Hockey Club hosted local rivals MCS at the fortress Tilsley Park on Saturday. With the new sound system donated kindly by the Hockey Griffen's Parent Committee, the buzz surrounding the games was at heightened levels.

The 3rd XI kicked us off with a fantastic 4-1 win. It was great to see the culmination of weeks of training and hard work pay off, with some great defensive work, outletting and forward movement leading to some brilliant team goals. The 2nd XI also played a nail-biting match, winning 3-2, in what was the best performance of the year for the 2s. The 1st XI, again played brilliantly, dominating possession and creating many chances. Unfortunately, once again, these chances were not taken and it allowed MCS to creep into the match. With the game poised on a knife edge, Abingdon hit the post and then the bar, before MCS countered to win the game in the last minute. Another brutal lesson for the 1st XI, but a fantastic match and incredible performance from a talented bunch of boys.

The U16 As played some scintillating hockey winning 4-1 against a regional MCS side, some very impressive play throughout the team meant that they controlled the game all the way through. Well done. The U16Bs played well, however playing with 11 outfield left them a little exposed at the back. With some subs brought on by MCS in the second half, they managed to find a couple of goals allowing them to win 2-0.

The U15As needed to score over 6 to win their league. After some inspirational words from their coach they went on the field and won 8-2, winning the ISHL for the second consecutive year. The U14 As recorded a fantastic draw against a strong MCS side. Defending with a new found resilience they managed to keep the game to a 0-0 draw. The U14Bs fought hard, playing some great hockey, with passion shown throughout they managed to draw 1-1 with a strong side.

Overall a fantastic weekend and end to the season, thank you to everyone that has come up to support and we look forward to a break before going again next year!
