Week 6 of the football season started with the U12s making the journey across to Caldicott School, with the Under 12A side securing a convincing 4 -1 win, scoring 1 more than the B team who won 3-1. Unfortunately back at Cox’s Field the U13s found the going tough, and despite a much improved performance both sides suffered defeats. On the same afternoon the senior sides continued their Thames Valley Football League campaigns against Forest School. Playing at home, the 4th XI secured a convincing win on Lower Field, whilst the 3rd XI was unfortunate in their narrow 0-1 defeat. Playing on Waste Court the 2nd XI continued their impressive run of results with another 2-1 win.

At Tilsley Park the 1st XI had the pleasure of OA Graeme Scott, premiership football referee, to officiate their fixture against Forest 1st XI. Playing with the wind at their back in the first half, the game was in the balance at 2-2 at half time, however a superb second half display, moving the ball at pace and driving with purpose, resulted in a terrific 6-2 win for the Abingdon side.

Thursday saw Abingdon welcome Kingham Hill School for two fixtures. The U14 As moved the ball with ease on their way to a highly convincing win, whilst on Waste Court a strong last 10 minutes resulted in a good 4-1 win for the Abingdon U15 A side.

The weekend arrived with great excitement, and in the morning the U14s and U15s welcomed Wellingborough School in a new block fixture for the Football Club. Starting on Waste Court, the U14s moved the ball well and created a number of opportunities on their way to a 7-1 win, whilst unfortunately the U14 Bs were outmuscled in their 5-3 defeat. Over at Tilsley Park the U15 As secured their second win in three days, 7-2 the score, whilst the U15 Bs achieved their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory.

Moving into the afternoon, the senior sides made the journey across to Wellingborough, with the 4th XI continuing their good run of form putting 7 past the opposition on their way to a 7-2 win, whilst the 3rd XI suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat. The 2nd XI added another win to the card, Matheo Charrier-Chardin netting another two goals and helping the side to a 3-1 score line.

Finally the 1st XI was looking to continue their good run of form, and a quick start meant the Abingdon side took an early 2-0 lead. A slow finish to the first half saw the game in the balance at half time, 2-2 the score, however the Abingdon side was quickly out of the blocks again in the second half, dominating possession and controlling the game. A 4-2 win the final score, and despite it not being the greatest spectacle, another well deserved victory for the Abingdon side.

The Football Club now looks forward to a full block fixture against the Oratory and Dragon School on Wednesday, before fixtures against Magdalen College and Cokethorpe School on Saturday.

Thank you for your continued support on the touchline.
