After no mid-week fixtures the fourth Saturday of the football season saw 16 sides take to the field on a very wet and overcast morning.
Starting with the U12s, Angus Barclay-Watt and Jim Allen both netted hat-tricks as the As secured an 8-0 win against Reading Grammar, whilst Khadim Sagna scored four of the U12 B's nine goals in their victory. Keeping up the lower school momentum the U13 As won 2-0, Max Struthers scoring the second whilst the U13 Bs also won 7-1.
Building on two excellent performances in recent weeks without reward, the U14 As' efforts this time paid off, controlling the game in a 2-0 win against their opposition from Reading Grammar.
The U14 Bs followed suit; goals from Hugo Hewetson-Smith, Ben Lisemore and Max Ellison helping the side to a 6-1 win. Away at Reading the U15 As continued their momentum with a 3-1 win whilst the 15 Bs won 10-0. Back at Abingdon two goals from Huw Williams and Josh Ponting as well as a goal from Charlie Britton helped the U16 As to a 5-3 win whilst the U16 Bs got their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory clinched in the final stages of the game.
Stepping up to the challenge of playing up, across at Shiplake College the U14 Cs battled well against Shiplake U14 As, whilst the U15 Cs put in an improved performance against Shiplake U15 Bs. Both sides unfortunately coming off second best on this occasion, however they must be credited for their efforts.
Moving onto the seniors, game of the day has to go to the 4th XI. With the game tied at 5-5 at the final whistle the boys took it to penalties, and two fine saves from George Tanner gave the Abingdon side victory on this occasion. The 3rd XI suffered a narrow 1-2 defeat. With the game in the balance at half time, the 2nd XI secured a pleasing 4-2 win, Max Paton with the final goal from the penalty spot. The second game of the day at Tilsley Park saw the 1st XI secure a convincing 8-2 win, Sam Warren netting four whilst Joe Lilley, Mathéo Charrier-Chardin, Oise Emafo and Jamie Masters all also got themselves on the score sheet.
The Football Club now looks forward to a busy week of fixtures including a Lower School triangular tournament on Wednesday against Abingdon Preparatory School and Oratory Preparatory School, before the annual block fixture against Radley College on Thursday.
