ASP's growing expertise in delivering the British Science Association's one day Discovery Awards was recognised again this week, when we were able to assist pupils at the brand new Aureus School in Didcot to carry out a Discovery day investigation. A specially selected group of Aureus School pupils worked on the Stop the Spread activity, developed by the Practical Action development charity. Working in teams, they designed educational resources and simple hand-washing devices to help save children in developing countries from spreading bacteria and dying needlessly from preventable illnesses. This was the same activity piloted by a group of Abingdon School second year pupils in 2016 who then exhibited their own work at the 2017 conference of the Association for Science Education at Reading University. As well as gaining their Discovery Awards, one team of Aureus pupils had their very innovative design chosen for entry into the Youth Grand Challenges competition, sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. We wish them luck with their entry!
