It has been an extremely busy last few weeks for the Cricket Club. Having completed a very competitive block of fixtures against Winchester College on the penultimate weekend of the season, we have encountered Radley College and Berkhamsted School in a full list of fixtures as well as entertaining MCS in the U15 Oxon Cup Final, the Lower School playing St Hugh’s, our U14s competing in the Radley T20 Festival and the 1st XI playing Brentwood School, Ipswich School and St John’s Leatherhead in the end of season cricket festival.

Highlights of the season have been both the U15 and U14 A teams being crowned County Champions in their respective competitions this term. The U15s went on to beat Stowe in the Regional semi final before losing to a very strong Wellington side in the Regional Final.

The U14s enjoyed a comprehensive 10 wicket victory over MCS in their final and now progress into the National rounds of the competition next season. Both the U14A and U14C sides have only lost the one fixture each this season in an impressive run of results.

The final 1st XI fixtures of the season were played at the 3-day festival held this year at Brentwood. The Abingdon side beat Brentwood comprehensively on the first day, before losing to eventual winners, Ipswich School on day 2. The last fixture against St John’s School, Leatherhead was a close affair, but the Abingdon bowlers held their nerve at the end of the game to complete a 19 run victory. There were a number of notable performances over the course of the 3 days. William Webb took 7 for 24 on debut versus Brentwood, whilst Andrew Russell, also on debut, produced a fine 50 to set up a competitive total after the side were 56 for 6. Maiden 1st XI 50s were scored by 3rd year Freddie Smith and 4th year James Coombs whilst the festival captain, Oscar Fountain found some late season form with a stylish 63 in the second game against Ipswich.

Overall, the cricket club ended the season with a win percentage marginally in excess of 50%.
