At 09:30 on the morning of the School’s Open Day, members of the CCF were preparing themselves to undertake the quite arduous journey from John O’Groats to Land’s End in aid of the Jon Egging Trust. Cdt Sjt Joseph O’Shea had set the ‘wheels in motion’ for this challenge several months earlier and having sorted all of the background administration, he organised a group of willing volunteers to start cycling, running, rowing and walking the 874 miles from Scotland through England and Wales and on to the finishing point in Cornwall.

The event started on a donated mountain bike during open day and then moved indoors to the newly refurbished gym. The aim was to reach the combined distance total of 874 miles in 24 hours. The boys clearly relished the challenge and were up and running with great exuberance, every single member of the event determined to rack up the total as quickly as possible. Their efforts were very quickly rewarded, reaching their total in only 14 hours at just gone midnight, leaving a huge 10 hours to spare. Every single man showed incredible skill and determination to complete such a huge challenge in such a short amount of time, especially whist being able to maintain such high levels of energy and spirit throughout. Notable commendation must go to both Cdt Cpl Will Franklin and Cdt Cpl Toby Rock for running full marathons with next to no training (26.2 miles each). A truly incredible effort from all the lads who raised well over £1,000 pounds for the Jon Egging Trust.
