The New Boat House

8 July 2003

The Abingdon residents grow ever more inquisitive as more appear on site to see the action and watch the building of the boathouse. Clearly inspired, one old chap decided it was time for him to go and sort out those missing panels in his garden shed…so off he went.

Moira is overwhelmed as more and more OA rowing parents turn up to make donations to the fundraising. She continues to do a roaring trade selling boathouse t-shirts from the back of the Volvo.

What is it about rowing parents and Volvos? There were 8 Volvo estates on site yesterday. Maybe we should fund raise for a new trailer and then the parents wouldn’t have to transport the boats in their cars.

We are building 4 of the 10 frames at the school site. The other 6 are being built at the Timber Frame Company in Somerset. As work progresses plans are being made to transport these big beasties down to the boathouse site at Wilsham Road. First road shipments will begin on Thursday, we hope.

The police have been told and road closures etc. are to be put in force. Imagine 40 tons of timber being transported from Park Road to Wilsham road…interesting thought.

Hope the roads are wide enough. Did anyone measure the roads?
