The New Boat House

5 July 2003

8 AM Filippo Campagna, Master Zimmerman Instructor, Gewerbe-Akademie, Rottweil, Germany arrives with four Master Class Students. Twelve hours direct driving, breakfast and then go straight to bed!!! These guys have a special uniform of black trousers and waistcoats with white shirts. They are going to perform a special dance for us sometime.

Abingdon Boat HouseLet’s have a look at some more of our overseas visitors. Travelling the farthest goes to Norma Ballendine of Golden, British Colombia, Canada. Nine hours of air time via the Arctic Route. Norma is a retired Senior Secretary for the British Colombia government.

Don’t forget the crew who make sure there is a constant supply of food and refreshment on site. John Casselden (school’s domestic bursar) has organized all the feeding. Celia Kingham, Beryl Guiver and Julia Hopkins are rowing mums who are running the welfare side of things. Celia has been a complete star and coped with an ever changing “guest” list and eventually managed to get the accommodation at the boarding houses “sorted” for 60 people. This welfare committee have arranged sight seeing trips, pub visits, punting etc to entertain our hard working guests.

Aside from the fun and friendship amongst the 70 or so site workers, the “office work” still has to be done. More decisions, meetings and sorting. Hell, don’t knock a hole there that’s the wrong place mate!
