Some of Larkmead's leading Year 11 scientists participated in an Introduction to Projectiles workshop this week, led by the ASP Co-ordinator and based on the Ogden Trust and Eton College's advanced projectiles investigation. The Larkmead pupils tracked the flight of a football, launched on top of a water bottle rocket, using clinometers and stop clocks. Back in the lab, they analysed their measurements to determine a value for the acceleration of the ball as it fell from the top of its trajectory. They were also introduced to the Tracker software which allows video clips from phone cameras or tablets to be analysed to provide similar results with higher precision timing. The workshop was very successful and will, hopefully, encourage more Larkmead scientists to think about taking A-level Physics next year.
