13 December 2018

Abingdon held its inaugural conference, AbingMUN18, on 1 December. Over 150 delegates from nine schools took part in the day.

The conference was opened by the Headmaster and delegates were then fortunate to hear a fascinating and insightful speech by Mr Colm Wilson, a senior humanitarian advisor at the Department for International Development.

The standard of debate was very high and delegates in the committees were kept busy discussing resolutions on topics including sanctions against developing nations, the Iranian nuclear deal, contemporary slavery and the deforestation and destruction of habitats. The conference also held an International Court of Justice and a Security Council.

Special thanks to Alasdair Czaplewski who acted as the Secretary General and did a huge amount of work to organise the event and his deputies Lance Wilson and Hayden Ramm.

The boys at AbingMUN would like to thank all those who participated, acted as guest chairs and the OAs who returned as Advisors and press corps on the day.

It was a huge success and it is fantastic to have so many students involved in our first MUN conference.
