In their inaugural season in the competition the 1st XI were drawn against Lingfield College in round one. Travelling away and in a tough and fiercely competitive encounter Abingdon took an early lead with a back post header from debutant Freddie Merret. With Lingfield having equalised, the game went to extra time during which Aaron Mara finished from close range to give the Abingdon side a 2-1 win and a place in the second round.

The second round saw Abingdon drawn at home against Merchant Taylors' Crosby which was played at Abingdon United Football Club. A slow start saw the visitors take an early 1-0 lead however two quick goals before half time meant Abingdon went in ahead. An Abingdon third early in the second half secured the win and a place in the hat for the third round!

A tough draw in the 3rd round saw Abingdon take on the challenge of national champions Hampton. Despite being on the back foot for large parts of the game, Abingdon contained the Hampton side well and had their own opportunities to take the lead. Going in at half time 0-2 down it was felt that Abingdon could still get something from the game, however having to open up in order to chase the game late on it finished 1-4. Great commitment and effort was shown by all boys, who left having given their all for the course.

The team can take great confidence from this cup run, and their first outing in the competition. We now look forward to the challenges ahead when the season begins in January!
