Wycombe Abbey debate

12 November 2010

The Abingdon Debating Society today enjoyed an excellent dinner and evening of debate at Wycombe Abbey School. Our finest 20 debaters, accompanied by Miss Yarrow, Mr Loughe and Miss Holt, enjoyed the School's fine hospitality before the main debate of the evening, 'Should prisoners get the vote?'.

The case for the house was argued persuasively by Robin Veale and Nick Williams, who managed to swing opinion in the floor dramatically in their favour to win the final vote. A second, impromptu, debate considered whether 'the X Factor embodied all that was wrong with British Society'; the final vote found decisively that the house did not agree with this motion after some empassioned speeches on both sides.

We look forward to welcoming Wycombe Abbey back at Abingdon later in the year.
