Notice for pupils unable to return to school owing to flight disruption from the Deputy Head (Academic)

We understand, of course, that many of you are finding it impossible to return to school as expected for the beginning of term because of the extraordinary disruption the Icelandic volcano has caused. You will know that many thousands of people across the world are being affected by this, not least six of Abingdon's own teachers!

We are also mindful of the fact that many of you are currently preparing for important exams in the next few weeks and may be getting very anxious about these last weeks of revision. In the first place, don't panic: you will already have with you, we hope, much of the material you need to be revising and will have spent valuable hours preparing yourselves over the holiday. In the second place, all teachers have been asked to note down which pupils are absent and to begin emailing them directly from Tuesday 20 April with any additional revision work and materials that might usefully be worked on from wherever you are. This material will be sent to your Abingdon email address and will not be posted on the school's Study Site - this is because a routine change to server passwords over the holidays will mean you cannot access the Study Site until you've been into school to pick up your new password.

Please also feel free to email your teachers directly with work, questions, concerns etc. All teacher emails at Abingdon work according to the following rubric: firstname.surname@abingdon.org.uk. If in doubt, email you tutor or Housemaster for further assistance or use support@abingdon.org.uk for help from the IT department.

If delays look like they will begin to affect actual exams (e.g. oral exams early on this term) then we will be in contact with you again to let you know what our plans are. Good luck with making your arrangements to get to the UK; we hope it will not be long before we see you safely back in Abingdon.
