Medical Matters
Please can parents keep the health centre updated of any changes to your son's health so we can update our records accordingly.
Already we are seeing some boys with gastro-intestinal upsets and viral type illnesses. Please do not send your son back to school after any such illnesses until 48 hours after the last occurrence. This is for the protection of the school community.
Asthma: all boys with asthma must carry their inhalers with them at school. We will hold a spare inhaler in the health centre for boys in case of emergency. If you wish to send a spare inhaler please ensure it is labelled with their name and in date.
Year 7 boys only BCG Screening Form: Oxfordshire NHS asks all parents of boys in year 7 only to complete a BCG screening questionnaire. Please complete and return the BCG Screening Form to the school health centre by the end of September. These forms will then be forwarded to the BCG screening team. There is a contact telephone number on the form if you have any queries about this matter.
Saturday Bus Service
Thank you for the feedback which was received regarding the Saturday Service. We are aware of a couple of issues along the way, including the unexpected road closure between Henley and Nettlebed, but in general, we were pleased with the outcome. There will be some refinements to the schedule, which will be detailed in next week's mailing. There is no service this weekend due to the Activities Weekend, but it will be operational again on Saturday 24 September. We do encourage parents to use this service.
Census Information
It is important to us that we know you have checked, and where necessary corrected or altered, the information that we hold about you and your son. We may need to contact you urgently on occasion, and having the incorrect information could cause problems for your son, you, and those dealing with an emergency.
Parents of boys who were at Abingdon in 2010/11 were asked early last term to check their son's census forms, and a reminder was sent out more recently to those whose forms had not been returned. If you are unable to locate the sheet we can send it to you again - e-mail your request to common.room@abingdon.org.uk. This does not apply to the parents of new boys.
Obviously it is not a wise use of staff time to keep chasing families who have not returned the form, so, if we have not received the form, we will assume that the data on your form needed no amendment.
For those parents living overseas it is essential that you give us a local contact who will act as UK guardian for your son.
Please let the common room secretaries know if you have any queries (01235 521563).
Parking/ waiting on Faringdon Road
Parents are reminded that the pick-up point for pupils is Park Crescent. Parking on Faringdon Road, over the cycle lane, is causing difficulties for other road users, particularly during rush hour, and for our school coaches negotiating their way into and out of the Coach Park. Recently an ambulance was delayed in accessing the Health Centre. Please arrange to pick up your son elsewhere.
