U12 County Cricket Champions

28 June 2010

Abingdon were crowned Under 12 county cricket champions for the second year running following a comfortable victory over Cokethorpe in the final at Cumnor Cricket Club today.

Abingdon won the toss and elected to bat first. Conor Graney (92) and Harry Anderson (27) got them off to a great start with a combination of positive stroke play and superb running between the wickets and this enabled the side to post a formidable total of 163 from their 25 overs. In contrast, Cokethorpe got off to a disastrous start losing 3 early wickets through good bowling from the captain Alec Curtis and some excellent fielding that resulted in 2 run outs. They then staged a comeback and were up with the required run rate at the half way stage, before some tight bowling by Jasper Gooder (3 for 8 off 4 overs) put pay to any hope of them setting up a tight finish and they were finally dismissed for 123 leaving Abingdon the victors by 40 runs.
