The Senior Athletics Team got off to a flying start this term with two victories in the first two competitions of term.
In the Radley Medley Relays, run on Tuesday 3 May, the medley team ran at the front for the whole of the second heat securing joint first with Harrow. Rumour had it that we had just pipped them at the post, but the clocks were stopped at 3:51 in both races, making it possibly the first tie in the events history. The team of Will Nott (200m), Jake Burgess (200m), Peter Barnshaw (400m) and Josh Ridley (800m) pushed on from first to last, thus fully deserving their victory.
At the Achilles Relays today the 4x800m team led from the first leg to secure a very comfortable victory crossing the line nearly 10 seconds ahead of their nearest rivals. The team of Stuart Jones, Tom Foxon, Luke Terry and Christian Reedman have competed for the athletics club for many years, so it was particularly pleasing that they should achieve success at this most prestigious competition. Tom Foxon was left to receive the trophy, which, on inspection, revealed that this was the first Abingdon success in this particular event in the competition’s history.
