12 November 2011
We were very fortunate to host a game today between Oxford University Greyhounds and Leicester Tigers Academy XV on our 1st XV pitch, before that of the School 1st XV game against The Oratory School.
We as a school have strengthened our links with Oxford University Rugby Club this season, and we were enormously grateful to them for allowing us play, under lights, our 1st XV game against Cokethorpe back in September. On 21 November we are planning to take a group of third and fourth year students to watch them play the Northampton Saints at Iffley Road.
The Oxford University Greyhounds were out to make themselves noticed, as the clock is now ticking before their Blues squad is announced for the Varsity Match in December. Their opposition needed no introduction, and it was great to welcome back some England 16 group players within the Tigers academy, who were at Abingdon School last year competing for places for the 16 Group.
The contest was tight in the first half, but the power and physique of the well drilled and professional outfit that is Leicester Tigers saw them record a 52-7 win.
The game was very inspirational for all those who chose to stay and spectate, and we hope to prolong this strong link with the University side.
