10 - 19 February 2012
Over half term a group of 4th year cricketers made the journey to Cape Town in South Africa for a cricket tour. With the area hosting some of the finest cricketing schools in the world, as well as a variety of cultural experiences off the field, the boys travelled down to Heathrow airport on the last day of term with real excitement.
During the week the boys took part in cricket fixtures against Rondebosch Boys High School, Bergvliet School, Fairmont school, the Western Province Cricket Club, and the Complete Cricket Academy. Despite travelling from snow into extremely hot conditions the boys produced some excellent performances whilst also taking part in a day-night floodlit fixture.
Along with the cricket the boys took in the sights of Table Mountain, The Cape of Good Hope, Seal Island, and The Boulders Penguins Sanctuary. This jam-packed trip also saw the group spend the day at Newlands Cricket ground as well as a brief stop at the home of the super 14 Rugby side, ‘the Stormers’.
Away from the cricket the group also found time to visit Robben Island, The Fiskanteral Township, and the Goedgefracht Farm Trust. Without doubt these days struck a chord with our boys where we were truly taken aback by the positive outlook and good work that is being done by these wonderfully inspirational projects.
Throughout the trip the boys were impeccably well-behaved and I’m sure were very grateful for the wonderful hosting provided by the schools and clubs that we visited. A truly memorable trip will no doubt see the boys in good shape for the 2012 season where they have qualified for the prestigous Lord Taverner’s Trophy. I’d also like to thank Mr Wickes and Mr Southwell-Sander for supporting the boys throughout the 10 days as well as the boys’ parents for helping make this trip a reality.
