Abingdon Touchliners is the parental support group for rugby at Abingdon School.

We are there to:

  • Fundraise to support rugby for all who wish to play at Abingdon
  • Nurture a socially inclusive environment not only on the touchline, but before and after matches and at special events
  • Support a local or relevant charity
  • Hold an annual Rugby Club Fundraising Dinner

Rugby inspires a unique sense of camaraderie, respect and belonging amongst players, parents and supporters that resonates both on and off the pitch. Touchliners is centred on encouraging and nurturing that spirit whilst supporting all of the players in all of the teams. We are there to help the players to enjoy and develop their rugby regardless of age or ability.

As parents, we can always be found (and usually heard!) on the touchline cheering on the players and, as an organisation, we are extremely pleased to welcome new members so we encourage you to join. As a member, your contribution can vary from general membership and attendance at social functions to involvement in the running of the society. We are a group of parent volunteers and are always looking for people to help out at social events or take on a role within the group.

Touchliners is all about rugby for all; whether your child is in the 1st Year or the Upper Sixth, one of the many E teams or the Abingdon 1st XV, we want them and you to enjoy being a part of Abingdon School rugby as much as we do. Touchliners is a great way to be involved in both the social and competitive spirits that underpin this wonderful game.

You can download a membership form which can be completed electronically and emailed to [email protected] or printed and returned to the Director of Rugby or a member of the Touchliners committee if you prefer. Annual family membership of Touchliners is currently £45, all of which is invested in the development of rugby at Abingdon School.

If you have any questions regarding Touchliners or Touchliners events, please catch us on the touchline (just ask the most vocal Abingdon supporter!), talk to your year group representative or email us at [email protected].

Year group representatives:

Lower School – Matthew Coombs
Y3 – Matthew Coombs, Siri Siriwardene
Y4 – Matthew Hooper, Lucy Carter, Jeannine Ferguson, Neil Fowler
Y5 – Oliver Wilson, Siri Siriwardene
Sixth Form – Siri Siriwardene, Adrian O’Hickey

We look forward to seeing you on the touchline!

Pre-match Socials

Pre-match drinks, anyone?

After dropping off the players, instead of sitting in our cars, Touchliners have been known to gather in a pub near to whichever venue we’re visiting.

When we’re at the school site, we go to The Brewery Tap, a real ale pub near Abingdon town centre; when we’re at Cox’s, The Dog House in Frilford.

When we’re away, details are generally circulated by one of the regulars to the parents of those pupils who are playing at the venue.

See you in the pub and THEN on the touchline!

Abingdon Touchliners Photo Library

Many parents like to have photographs of their children in action on the rugby pitch; Touchliners has a Photobucket account that is open to all members to use and, more importantly, to upload pictures to, so parents who can’t make a match can also benefit. Just email for details, stating whether you need view only or upload access rights.
