During the second half of the summer term, 4th year physicists have started working on a “Physics of Scalextric” project. Basic tasks include students measuring the maximum speed and acceleration of the car along with the amount of energy used and the cost to run whilst more complex challenges are designing and building an automatic controller that will get the car to travel exactly once around the track and then stop and to design and 3d print your own car.
