The psychologists of the Lower and Upper 6th, accompanied by students from St Helen and St Katharine, travelled to Warwick University for a psychology filled day, run by Psychology in Action. The day comprised of five captivating lectures, each offering unique insights into the fascinating world of psychology and the opportunities that stem from it.

One of the highlights was a lecture on the effects of the placebo in sport. Delivered by an esteemed academic from Canterbury Christ Church University, this session explored the psychological mechanisms behind the placebo effect and its implications for athletic performance. Students gained a deeper understanding of the power of belief and perception in shaping human behaviour, particularly in the context of competitive sports.

Another compelling lecture was presented by a forensic psychologist, shedding light on the intricacies of criminal behaviour and the role of psychology in the criminal justice system. Through real-world case studies and research findings, students were able to grasp the complexities of forensic psychology and its applications in both legal and clinical settings.

It was great to see so many students asking questions and showing a genuine interest in the day with the lectures not only expanding students’ understanding of key psychological concepts but also sparking thought-provoking discussions and critical thinking.

Overall the psychology trip was a resounding success, providing students with a valuable opportunity to explore diverse topics within the field of psychology and gain insights from leading experts. As they return to their studies, students carry with them a deeper appreciation for the complexities of the human mind and the boundless possibilities within the realm of psychology.
