During a busy week Crispin was called out of his office to judge the annual Year 8 Boat Race. Fan-propelled boats were made in CDT to race across the School's swimming pool. Year 8 worked in pairs to produce a light, stable craft using recycled products. One battery pack, dowel, elastic bands, water bottles and floats were the only pieces of equipment allowed (no glue!). The design of the boat and the size of the fan were crucial decisions.

James and Krishan's catamaran reached the other side of the pool in first place, with a gold being awarded for their efforts. Crispin chose a compact boat by Rohan and Giles as his favourite design of the day. Great fun was had by all, with no boats sinking and only one capsizing! A problem-solving challenge well executed.
