CDT works on a modular basis with Art lessons, as the boys progress through the school. Fan powered vehicles are made and jitterbugs, with an off centre pivot, extend their electrical knowledge. Belt drive buggies are constructed and a highlight of the year is the ‘Year 7 buggy race’ competing for not only the fastest car but also the best designed vehicle. Swinging mobiles are cut from wood and a popular project is the creation of chalk message boards. The Christmas Bazaar occurs again and the boys make larger and more inventive games to use for the fundraising day. 3D felt making is taught, making a felted paperweight. Desk tidies are well planned and made using modroc, wood or recyclable materials.
Computer graphics and technical drawing skills improve and recording ideas with the digital camera is expected. Boys learn new skills with the CAD/CAM software which works with our new Stika Cutter to print designs onto mugs, T shirts and models to give their work a more professional look. Simple name plaques are produced using the electric fretsaw, pillar drill and disc sander. The boys also have some time to create, design and make a project of their choice.
