Year 7 Art

8 June 2009

Pupils look at shape and colour using Matisse as a starting point. The simplicity of his work and the use of large paper cut-outs allow the children to explore possibilities and combinations, whilst changing their work instantly by exchanging shapes/colours. The boys construct sculptures and patterns which follow Andy Goldsworthy's approach of using natural and found objects, to create temporary pieces which draw out the character of their environment. David Hockney's portraits and 'Joiners' act as inspiration for the boys to create their own depictions of people in different environments. The photography element to this project is always a favourite. Ongoing observational drawing work continues throughout the term.
