Year 6 Art

Year 6 Art

11 May 2009

The boys hone their painting skills in seascape and landscape work. The first experience is where paint is applied directly onto the paper and dragged across with sponges to create the  mixture of colours and ripples. Watercolour paintings focus on blending and layering, whilst bold details can be added to depict the shape of land or other features. City-scapes work looks at perspective and the style of Lowry. Aboriginal 'dreamings' fascinate the boys because of the symbols and meaning within them. Pupils explore the topic through paint, ICT and fabric painting. Totem poles in Oxford? You will find one in the Pitt Rivers Museum...and our art room! Cardboard sculpture forms the basis of each animal themed section, which is decorated and stacked with others to build a set of 5 foot totem poles.
