CDT becomes even noisier in Year 5 as the boys start the year investigating musical instruments and their structures. Bells, guitars, shakers are produced to perform in a class orchestra piece. They extend their electrical knowledge by making a steady hand buzzer game and a parallel circuit is introduced. Woodwork projects include ball bearing maze games, trophy shields and football goals. Boys design fundraising games for the Christmas Bazaar and a special packaging box is constructed for some homemade Christmas cookies! Technical drawing skills improve as stars are made from circles and much of the summer term is dedicated to making moving toys from cam mechanisms.
ICT skills are combined with artistic skills and the computers are used as a resource for research. The highlight of this year’s textile work is designing and sewing on the machines their own ‘Teddy Bear’, followed by a celebratory Teddy Bear’s picnic!
