Year 1 Art

Year 1 Art

9 December 2009

Art techniques are explored through curriculum topics. Elmer and his famous story help with colour mixing and identifying primary and secondary colours, which the children love. Painting, drawing and paper sculpture are all used in self-portraits at the beginning of the year to produce a unique memory of being 6! Within the topic of 'Homes', the children take rubbings around the school, translate this into a print and also complete a collage as group work. Stained glass windows have a colourful and striking effect in the classroom and relate to an R.E. visit to the local church. The Summer Term sees a bright and fresh look at the 'Seaside' theme; weaving the sea and exploring how to make creatures is endlessly enjoyable for the boys.
